David Davis resigns

Shadow Home Secretary David Davis has resigned as an MP, so that he can force a by-election in which he will fight on the issue of the new 42 day pre-charge detention limit for terror suspects (recently narrowly passed in the House of Commons).

Some Labour MPs have apparently claimed that it is just a “stunt”.

A stunt? Looks like an act of principle & honour, to me, from a man who is trying to make a stand against what he and many others (myself included) see as New Labour’s continued authoritarianism, and their seeming disregard for traditional and fundamental British liberties.

Now, I’ve never liked the Tories, & never voted for them.

But… if I lived in David Davis’ constituency, I’d happily put my X against his name in the by-election.
