Controller Rage

Now, I rarely give up on games. I always try & finish them. Hell, I even finished Assassin’s Creed, despite it quickly becoming horrendously tedious IMO, because the story held my interest & I wanted to see how it panned out, plus I felt it’d be a waste of £40 to just give up.

The last game I gave up on was Capcom’s Devil May Cry 4, but that was not due to it being too hard (it wasn’t), but due to me finding it very boring to play, with not enough story to keep my interest. Ditto for Capcom’s Lost Planet in early 2007. Both got traded in. Hmm, I also got bored with Capcom’s Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition… I sense a pattern.

Anyway.

I’ve been playing the PS3 version of Ninja Gaiden (“Ninja Gaiden Sigma”), as I missed the original version on the old Xbox. Heard a lot of good stuff about it, so thought I’d give the game a go, before originally planning on then going for Ninja Gaiden 2 on the 360.

But… it really fucks me off.

In fact, I think it is the most frustrating game I have ever played.

Now, I don’t mind games being challenging, or having the occasional frustrating bit. I got annoyed at times with GTA IV, Halo 3, & various other games. But they always felt fair, & they always held my interest enough to make me persevere & try again (leading to me feeling all the more pleased that I’d achieved something when I got past whatever the frustrating bit was)… and I always completed them.

NG though… I think it’s taking the piss. It’s simply not fun getting your butt handed to you repeatedly, & being made to feel useless. And the story doesn’t hold my interest enough to make me keep going either, which doesn’t help. If it at least had what I felt to be a better story, it’d maybe give me a reason to keep at it. But it doesn’t & I simply don’t give a shit about it anymore. When Ryu dies, I get angry, eject the disc & turn the PS3 off, rather than restart.

So I’m ditching it. The first game in fucking ages I have given up on due to frustration.

And I don’t think I’ll be getting Ninja Gaiden 2 afterall…
