So, the big day finally arrived
Thursday 27th March: two days to go -
Ally and I both had the day off.
Ally picked up her dress, and took a load of stuff to the hotel for the reception.
I did… erm, bugger all, as my suit was ready early and had been picked up the previous week. Did get a nice lie-in. I did carry all the boxes for the hotel to the car though, although Ally didn’t need me to go with her.
Friday 28th March: one day to go -
Ally and I both had the day off.
Ally had her nails and stuff done, and went out for lunch with a friend.
I… had a nice lie-in.
We then went out for dinner on Friday evening with Ally’s parents and her maternal grandparents (her grandparents had their 60th wedding anniversary the day before).
Ally then dropped me off round Rich and Karen’s house, so she could have the flat to herself the-night-before-and-the-morning-of.
Rich, Karen, and I then went out to The Carlton Arms, a very nice pub nearish them (great beer!), and Rob came along and joined us. I started feeling more nervous.
Stayed over at Rich and Karen’s.
Saturday 29th March: the day itself -
Got up and had breakfast. And some cigarettes.
Got washed and dressed, and got my suit on. Realised my polish was dry, and panicked. Rich saved the day by finding his own polish, and by then polishing my shoes for me as I was already in my suit, plus was stressing.
The three of us got a taxi to the Castle pub next to the Council and Register Office, where we met my parents, my brother David (my best man) and his girlfriend Rachael, Rob, and my Aunt Ann and cousin Greg.
Drank coke only, and went outside to smoke cigarettes…
We then went over to the Register Office, which was already full with most of the other guests… apart from Ally’s brother Ian, who was bringing the button holes. I panicked some more, and then went through to the ceremony room, where the Registrars told me not to worry and went over the prelim bits with me.
Ian turned up, with the buttonholes.
Everyone came into the ceremony room and was seated. Parents on both sides, my brother David and his girlfriend Rachael, Ann and Greg, Rich and Karen, LLoyd and Louise, Rob, Ally’s three brothers and their partners, Ally’s aunt and uncle, Ally’s grandparents and another aunt, few of Ally’s friends, etc.
Ally arrived, and we all stood.
Ally entered the room, and I started welling up.
Ally looked fucking beautiful
We then had the ceremony, signed the Register, and then did the photos… with a bit of drizzle when we were outside.
Off to the Royal Cambridge Hotel…
Few more photos. Reception drinks.
Graham arrived (couldn’t make it for the ceremony).
Downstairs for Dinner & Speeches!
More drinks upstairs in the bar.
The evening began… Everyone else arrived – my other friends (Tim, Natalie, Ben), a couple of my cousins (Deb & Liz), my workmates (John, Phil, Dave, etc.), Ally’s other friends and workmates, etc.
Lots of drinking…
First dance… think I just about managed it.
Ponced a couple of cigarettes off Ally’s older brother Martin (so much for quitting once I was married… although I have at least not had any since those two).
Lots of wandering around, trying to talk to everyone… still missed a few though.
Various goodbyes through the night…
Last dance…
Final goodbyes to the remaining people.
Stayed at the hotel.
Sunday 30th March: the day after -
Up just in time for breakfast.
Final goodbyes to both sets of parents, my brother, plus Ann & my cousins.
Off home.
Long nap.
Monday 31st March -
Ally and I had the whole week off work.
Not much. Went back to the jeweller’s to yet again tell them my ring is too big. Got them to agree this time, & shall be getting an “M” in place of the “N” in a month or so.
Tuesday 1st April -
Off to the Lake District, for our “mini-moon” (main honeymoon is hopefully going to be a big Western US road-trip thing later this year / next, when we have more money… hence asking people for Trailfinders Vouchers rather than clichéd crap we don’t need like toasters etc.).
Stayed near Windermere.
Saw some stuff in the afternoon.
Wednesday 2nd April -
Saw more of the lakes.
Also went to a slate mine (Honister), and briefly saw Grizedale Forest and Castlerigg Stone Circle.
Thursday 3rd April -
Back home, via a trip to Cadbury World.
Friday 4th April -
Bugger all during the day.
Out to the pub Friday night for Rob’s birthday.
Saturday 5th April / Sunday 6th April -
Erm, not a lot.
Monday 7th April -
Back to work
——————————————–
There are shit loads of photos… tonnes taken with Ally’s camera, plus many other cameras, and of course our actual Photographer’s photos.
Some are currently on Photobucket, although I can’t remember the link. The rest will be going up when we get them off people.
I may put some up here.
