…Since the last update.
Been a long time since a lot of things.
So…
Ended up getting a nice new fridge-freezer, much bigger one than the old one too. And didn’t get charged for it.
Had loads of stress, & hassle, & time consumed, with the whole “hunt for new housemates”.
Tom was going to stay on, so we were initially gonna look for two new people.
But…then Tom had an out of the blue offer he couldn’t refuse. His cousin, who he’s great mates with, happened to mention to him that he had a room going, which was bigger & cheaper than his one here, & he could have it if he wanted. So, obviously, Tom took him up on the offer. Annoying, but understandable. I’d have done the same in his position. Although it’s annoying if you’re hunting for a room, & so give up & decide to stay as we both did, it’s different if you get one offered to you on a plate.
So I ended up looking for three people.
Spent an entire Saturday, & several evenings, showing people around.
Eventually found three people who were interested, & who didn’t seem like freaks, & they’ve now all moved in. Seems OK so far.
WingTsun took up a lot of time too, as I had my second grading in mid-late August, so went to training every night that week, & then had the all-day grading seminar itself at the end of that week, on Sunday 21st. Passed
Also been doing double-sessions recently, so been training from 7pm ’till 10pm Mon & Wed, rather than 7pm ’till 8:30pm.
Had the monthly WT social on Friday 26th August, at the Cambridge Blue. Nice pub, & a fun night.
Still been going out with work people on Wednesdays. Go to the pub with them straight after work (but don’t drink initially), then pop over the road for WT training, & then re-join them at the pub after I finish at 10pm.
Also still been doing badminton most Thursdays.
Worked my way through the whole of “Lost” recently. Excellent series, although lots of still unanswered questions. Can’t wait for season 2 to start in the US (& then therefore be available online cough cough).
Also watched the 1st three episodes of “Rome”, a new historical drama series co-produced by HBO & the BBC. It’s set around the time of Julius Caesar, & is apparently going to cover the fall of the Roman Republic & the rise of the Empire. Very good so far.
Went to London last Saturday, 10th September, for a house-party at Ben’s (a belated housewarming party). Pretty good night. Tim, his girlfriend Jane, & his brother Ed, also went, which was good, as I haven’t seen them in ages.
Also started seeing someone…
Came to the conslusion that I’m unlikely to ever meet anyone the “normal” way, as:
- I’m not the sort of person to go out to pubs/clubs & “pull”. And even if I was, it’s unlikely any drunken club pulls would lead to any sort of relationship.
- I met all past girlfriends via mutual friends, & my friends don’t have any single & available female friends left to try & set me up with.
So I gave in & tried online dating.
Very embarrassing way to do it, although it does seem to have less of a geeky stigma attached to it than it used to.
Had been in email contact with this girl called Ally for a while, & then finally met up for real, for a first date, Sat 27th August. Had a drink at the Cambridge Blue, & then went for a meal at the always excellent Saffron Brasserie.
Met her again a week later, Sat 3rd September, & went for dinner at Zizzi (Italian pizza/pasta type place).
Saw her a third time on Tuesday 6th September, went round for dinner & watched a DVD.
Fourth time on Friday 9th September, she came round mine for dinner & we watched a DVD.
Fifth time on Sunday 11th September, went round hers for Sunday dinner, & watched a DVD.
Sixth time last night, we went for food at Frankie & Benny’s at the “Leisure Park”, & then went 10 pin bowling.
I think she’s lovely, & it seems to be going well so far.
